What Can You Expect
First time
For this treatment, a consultation is required in advance where we ask questions about medical conditions, medication use, and allergies, as this may affect the safety and effectiveness of the treatment. We determine whether a chemical peel is suitable for your skin type and skin issues. During the consultation, you can also discuss any questions or concerns you may have about the treatment.
Pre Treatment
To prepare for a chemical peel, it is important to avoid products that can irritate or exfoliate the skin, such as retinols, exfoliants, acids, and self-tanners. It is also advisable to stay out of the sun and use a sunscreen (SPF) to protect the skin from the sun. Additionally, it is important to follow the instructions of the skin specialist the next time to prepare the skin for the treatment. This may mean using or avoiding certain products.
Direct after
Your skin may exhibit the following symptoms: tingling, a burning sensation, itching, dryness, redness, or feeling tight. This is normal; however, you can use a moisturizing/restorative cream to soothe your skin. During this period, do not engage in heavy exercise. Avoid sources of heat, such as saunas and steam baths. Avoid active exfoliating products, such as retinoids (retinol, tretinoin), AHAs (glycolic acid, lactic acid), BHAs (salicylic acid), and benzoyl peroxide. Apply an SPF of at least 30+ immediately after the treatment and every day after the treatment to prevent hyperpigmentation.
3 Days later
Your skin will be dry and flaky, peeling or exfoliation is normal. It is best to let this process recover naturally; do not pick or pull at the skin (this can lead to discoloration/hyperpigmentation). After three to four days, most of the peeling should be completed, but it may take five to seven days for fresh, new skin to develop.
7 Days later
The peeling period should be over and your skin should feel good. Make sure to keep your skin hydrated and continue with your skincare routine.
2 to 6 weeks
Your skin can undergo a new intensive treatment again. You can have this treatment every 2 to 6 weeks depending on the strength of the peel to achieve your best results and address your skin issues. During a course, we gradually increase the peel. By building up the treatments, the layers of the skin are exfoliated more deeply, leading to better and longer-lasting results.
